A Simple Early Summer Bouquet

vase 1

I prepared a very simple vase this week, for reasons I'll share at the end. Thanks to Cathy for hosting In a Vase on Monday.

Allium 'Globemaster'

The star of the show is Ornamental Onion Allium 'Globemaster.'

Viburnum trilobum

Just as lovely, and supporting the star, is Cranberrybush Viburnum (V. trilobum). The blooms are a little more open than last week, but still good elements for the arrangement.

Viburnum trilobum foliage

The Viburnum foliage is fun, too. It forms the framework, along with the three Hosta leaves.

Iris sanguinea in vase

The Siberian Irises (I. sanguinea) are blooming now, as well, so I included a couple stems in the arrangement.

Here's a view of one out in the garden.

So, it's a simple collection. Head on over to Rambling in the Garden to share your garden arrangements, and to see others from around the world.

I'm taking a little break from blogging for a few days, as I'll soon head to the Garden Fling in Memphis, Tenn. The Fishman is caring for the puppy, kitty, and garden while I'm gone. I'll have many things to report on when I get back!

    1. Hi Kris: Darn, I wish I'd get to visit with you, but maybe next year? Flings are so much fun; I wish I could go to every one, but it's not always possible.

  2. The hosta leaves are great finishing touch, Beth, and the viburnum is such an interesting bloom to admire close up - you have put together a very artistic combination. Enjoy the fling!

    1. Thanks, Cathy. Yes, I love the Viburnum blooms, and I'm learning more about them as cut flowers. I haven't used them enough in the past. They don't last long in a vase toward the end of their blooming cycle, but they lasted longer than a week when I cut them earlier in the blooming period...for last week's post.

Enjoy your trip my dear friend. Cannot wait to hear all about it.

    1. Hi Amelia: The Siberian Irises don't last long enough, but they are beautiful while they bloom. The Fling will be great fun...can't wait. :)

  9. That’s a very unusual and highly effective arrangement, Beth. The star for me is the huge allium, but adding the hosta leaves at the back is genius - it adds so much drama.

    1. Thank you, Catherine. I have so many Hostas here, and they're great for structure and filler. The Alliums are fun to play with in arrangements.

  10. Gorgeous --the variegated leaves framing the star of the show Allium is just right.

Hope you have a fabulously fun Fling!

  11. A beautiful arrangement Beth. It is like a picture. Alliums and irises make the June garden. I hope you are having a wonderful time at the fling. I wish we had something like that here. It sounds like fun.
