Wordless "Ooops!"

Dahlia in bud vase

  1. That's one beautiful - and early flowering - dahlia, Beth. Does the "oops" reference mean the stem was cut by accident? I looked into whether there's a Dahlia 'Oops' but only found one called 'Ali Oop'. In any case, it fits the vase nicely ;)

    1. Hi Kris: I bought the Dahlia fully formed/grown at the garden center the other day. I fell in love with it. Yes, when I was straightening things in the pot, a small branch broke off, so that's my "ooops." The plant will be fine, and Dahlias are great cut flowers...but it wasn't intentional. ;-)

    1. Overall, it is OK! When the branch broke off, I was disappointed. But Dahlias are wonderful cut flowers, and the larger plant will be fine. :)

  4. I don't see any 'oops' here, just beauty.

    1. I admit clipping Dahlias for display is delightful. This little branch was knocked over by accident, but I'm happy to display it in the bud vase. :)

  5. That's lovely, Beth. Glad you found such a beauty at the garden center. Reminds me of Great Silence.

    1. Yes, I can see what you mean about it resembling 'Great Silence.' This one, 'Hypnotica Rose Bicolor,' grows to half the height and the flowers are smaller, but it has the same colors and beauty. :)

  6. Ha... cute. I think I know what happened here.
I ordered dahlia tubers, they should arrive today. :-) I will pot them on and start them in the house. Later in June I will plant them outside. I will cross my fingers the earwigs are not as nasty this year.

    1. Yes, it's a happy little plant in its spot. (And it will be just fine even with my accidental "pruning.") I hope it will be happy throughout the growing season. :)

  8. I love when accidental snips work for you! Lovely Dahlia - and nice to have one in the house.

    1. Yes, I was initially sad to see the bent and broken stem (my carelessness). But then I was happy to place it in a bud vase in the house. :)
