My #Shortdays Challenge
Are you on Instagram? I'm finding it's a fun platform for sharing the simple little pleasures of life.
To encourage myself to appreciate every day instead of wishing away and crabbing my way through the winter, I started my #shortdayschallenge on Instagram. I'm challenging myself to post one special thing every day, from November through February.
Feel free to join in! I'd love to follow you on Instagram, too. My handle is @plantposter. What's yours?
It's amazing how special each day is when we make an extra effort to see and appreciate the simple gifts around us.

Love the idea but I am not on instagram. Decided I can't participate in one more thing online. But I will try to keep up with you as you take such inspirational photos.
ReplyDeleteI know: It does get complicated! ;-) Thank you, Linda. Back at you! I always enjoy my visits to your blog.
DeleteGreat photos!
ReplyDeleteI am not on Instagram, but that does sound like a fun challenge. It is true that too often we get too busy to appreciate the little things.
Have a great week!
Thank you, Lea! Sometimes it's busyness, sometimes it's a frustration with how slowly the winter passes (at least in this climate). But as I'm finding a way to appreciate every day, I'm finding it's a little easier. However, I may have a different story in January and February. ;-)
DeleteI agree that Instagram is a fantastic space! I particularly like that It can be used for mini-blogging and thus can be more frequent. Agree strongly also with your positive thinking behind #shortdayschallenge.
ReplyDeleteI like IG so much that Ive split myself into @petalsbyparaig and @paraigdeb
My only fear is that FB will eventually destroy it too! Beir bua! 🇮🇪
Thanks for visiting! Instagram seems like a more positive and simple space than some of the other SM platforms. I hope it will continue to be easy-to-use and fun. If not, it will lose users. It's already getting a little advertising-heavy, but still manageable at this point.
DeleteI am on IG too . ..
ReplyDeleteA one pic, few words is refreshing in and
amongst creating a blog post, looking at FB.
Love your one day pic idea . . . I will look for you . . .
You can find me as lynnelag
Yes! Glad to meet you on Instagram after being steady friends here on our blogs. :) Thank you, Lynne.
DeleteI've been trying to post a garden shot everyday. It's benn about three y ars and I've (nearly) done it everyday. I have thousands of photos that otherwise be sitting in a hard drive on my desk where no one would ever see them, including me. We already follow each other (and I know you in real life too!). It's different than blogging, and more visual than Facebook. Being a designer/art director/photographer, it's in my wheelhouse.
ReplyDeleteWow, good for you, Jim! Yes, you are an amazing photographer. Thanks for checking in! Hope to see you at the next GB Fling or at a GWA event. :)
DeleteI haven't gotten into Instagram. I love the premise of your posts.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lisa. Instagram is quick and easy. I still feel like there's a place for blogging, Twitter, and Facebook (and others), too. But I find it more difficult to keep up with any of those on a daily basis.
DeleteLove this idea Beth. I don't really post often enough on Instagram to do this challenge, but will endeavour to do something somewhere! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Michelle. I know I'm following you on Instagram, and of course FB, and at the Flings. Cheers!
DeleteI didn't realize you'd launched the challenge, Beth, but I've enjoyed your photos on IG. Your photos there, like those you post here, are always stellar.
ReplyDeleteHi Kris: It's a personal challenge, but anyone is welcome to join in! I'm finding it's helping me to appreciate each short day in my northern climate. That's not hard for me to do during the spring, summer, and early fall. But when the days are so short, I need to keep reminding myself that winter is OK. ;-)
DeleteI'm not on Instagram, but I enjoyed these photos. This is a great idea and I hope it gives you cheer. (It certainly delivered it for me!)
ReplyDeleteHi Tina: Thanks for your kind comment. I'm glad I helped brighten your day a little. You always brighten mine with your photos and posts!
DeleteI did not know you launched the challenge. I too have enjoyed your photos. I think I can give it a go. :-)
ReplyDeleteCarla
Hi Carla: I just did it on a whim to help myself make it through the winter. ;-) But anyone is welcome to join in! I enjoy your photos and posts, too! Welcome! :)
DeleteI have an instagram account but i already forgot my account and password for not using it, so can't just go in. Lack of more time limits me to do that in the past, but maybe in the next days i can also join in. Your collections above are so beautiful, because you always take nice photos! Enjoy Beth and take care.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Andrea. Instagram is fun! I love to blog, too. They both have their place. :)
DeleteI don't dare join another online platform! I have a hard time finding time for blogging, which is what I most enjoy. So thanks for posting the photos here as well. I especially enjoyed your observation about the "extra effort to see and appreciate the simple gifts around us" ... reminds me of the Little Prince's (de Saint-Exupéry's) observation that only children take the time to look ... Let's be kids then!!
ReplyDeleteI too will enjoy your blog updates from Instagram.
DeleteThanks for the reminder about "The Little Prince." So true: We are wise to face the world through the eyes of a child. Happy December!
DeleteThanks, Diana. :)
DeleteGood idea! I'm embarrassed to say I joined IG but have never used it. Maybe this will get me to overcome my resistance.
ReplyDeleteI am full in with Instagram these days. But I still love to blog, too. What a great community of garden bloggers and posters we have!
DeleteInteresting, I've joined IG for several time. but rarely making post on that media.
ReplyDeleteHope to see you there and continue you to see you in the blog world, Endah. I always enjoy your posts and your visits! :)
DeleteBeth, I'm enjoying your shortdays postings on IG. Finding IG a lot easier to get to these days than everyone's blogs.
ReplyDeleteHi Susie: I really enjoy both platforms, but I agree--especially during busy times like December. ;-)
DeleteA great idea. There is much beauty in winter, we simply have to focus on it. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Eliza. Yes, taking the time to appreciate one special thing each day is really helping my mood.
DeleteFinding the beauty instead of crabbing away the winter days will surely lift your spirits! What a great idea. I have an instagram account but have never posted anything. Must figure that out one of these days as it would be nice to participate in #shortdays challenge!
ReplyDeleteIt is helping some, Peter. Would enjoy having you join in the meme! Sometimes I don't know which Instagram handle belongs to which person. But Instagram is fun!
