It all depends on your perspective

Inspired by a post by Frances at Fairegarden about the view out her window onto her beautiful garden, I decided to show you what I see when I look into my house from my garden. (Apologies for the messy, damaged screens that I must replace next spring! But this is what I actually see.)

In the photo above, doesn't it look like Ginger is eyeing a tasty treat of miniature squashes?

But when you pull back a bit, you see that Ginger is sitting in the window, and the table with squashes is in the background.

Pulling back even further makes the true perspective clearer. (Oreo, get off that table!)

No, you can't come outside and join me in the garden. I know you're licking your chops thinking about flying and crawling critters, but you will always be an indoor cat.

Sorry, guys. The garden is for the birds, the plants, the wild animals, my guests, and me to enjoy. But you can watch! And I'll feed you when I come inside.

  1. What beautiful creatures are Ginger and Oreo! It did, indeed look like a cute table with miniature fairy pumpkins, all set for a fey Thanksgiving. Thanks for the linkage, I do appreciate you!

    1. Aren't they cute? Thanks so much for the inspiration. These guys watch me in the garden just about every time I venture out--especially when the windows are open. They seem to appreciate the view, as we humans do. Thanks, again!

  2. What a great perspective and illusion. Usually we look out the window not in. I love the texture the screen gives to your shoots too!

    1. Thanks, Karin. I hesitated to post the pictures because of the screens, but they help to tell the story. ;-)

  3. Part of the inside/outside connection of architecture is the connection in both directions. I said to Frances that it was nice she illustrated the point well, but you added to the concept. The garden is always part of the architecture experience, and your kitties are letting you know that first hand.

    1. Thanks, Donna. Frances gave me the nudge to think about the big picture, and how thankful I should be for the views in all directions. It's always a fun little extra bonus to glance up from garden tasks and see the cats watching me and the other creatures outside.

  4. What a cute post! Loved the optical illusion! And Oreo on the table made it even more fun. Your cats make great models!

    1. Thanks, Holley. Oreo was being a naughty kitty. But for the most part, they're very good pets and keep me entertained. :)

    1. Thanks, I'm sort of attached. They're great heaters in the winter, too.

  6. Great experiment! But why on earth don't you let those poor cats getting outside and enjoy themselves?

    1. When I was growing up, we always had outdoor cats. But they kill the songbirds. Plus, one of my cats doesn't have front claws (long story) so he'd be at a disadvantage to defend himself. They have a pretty good life, except for the fact that they can't go outside.

    1. Yeah, it looks like something out of "Through the Looking Glass," doesn't it?

  8. The screens give the photos something of the feel of an old oil painting!

    1. True. Maybe I should play around with photo editing and make them look artsy or something. I'd probably mess them up, though. ;-)

  9. Beth I love the perspective through the screen..it added to it and let us know the line between inside and out...great shots.

    1. Thanks, Donna. They're basically point and shoot shots, but I thought the "mini squashes" photo was fun. The cats spend a lot of time in the windowsill during mild weather days. And they watch me (and all the other activity) while I garden. :)

  10. Ha! I loved this, Beth! Looking at the first photo, I wondered where you found those tiny little squashes:) When I look into my window from out in the garden, I often see similar faces. The living room window is the favorite perch for both the cats and Sophie to watch bird TV:)

    1. Thanks! Yes, "bird TV" is a good way to put it. They seem pleased to watch, although I realize sometimes it must be very frustrating!

    1. Thanks! Sometimes they're patient, but not in the morning when it's breakfast time. ;-)

  12. What fun photos! I was about to comment on your previous post, but the photo of your cat and table caught my eye, and I wanted to look at this post first. Oh, and I love your screen. It has character.
