It's Halloween time, and this blog is seven years old this month!
Cathy at Rambling in the Garden hosts the meme, In a Vase on Monday, so ... three reasons to celebrate!
My "vase" is a hollowed-out pumpkin filled with floral foam. In the arrangement:
- Hydrangea foliage (H. macrophylla 'Nikko Blue');
- Northern Sea Oats stems and seeds (Chasmanthium latifolium);
- Tropical Milkweed tall stems, buds, and blooms (Asclepias curassavica); and
- Zinnia blooms (Z. elegans 'Zowie! Yellow Flame' and 'State Fair Mix').
Thanks for hosting, Cathy! Thanks to all of you for your continued support and camaraderie during the past seven years!
And Happy Halloween! (Be safe out there!)
Oh the colours of these are gorgeous, Beth and the pumpkin is a perfect receptacle
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting the meme, Cathy! I, too, like the Zinnias with the pumpkin. I had some other color Zinnias, too, but they didn't quite work with this arrangement. I'm sad they're finished blooming for the year.
DeleteCongrats on your anniversary and that gorgeous display.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Linda. Blogging has been such a wonderful adventure. I'm glad we've gotten to know each other through our blogs, too!
DeleteBeth you always come up with the most amazing vases and displays....I must try this one year...pumpkins make great containers....and especially when filled to brimming with all your blooms. Hoping your weather cooperates for a while. We are getting blasted with the tropical storm that came up the coast....50-60 mile an hour gusts and 30mph sustained winds....many inches of rain to finally flood the garden again. Stay safe! And Happy Halloween to you too!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Donna. Yeah, about the time the pumpkin starts to spoil, the flowers do, too. So the whole package can be dropped in the compost bin. Yikes--I hope the winds are calmer now? We are just cold--quite a shock to the system after a very warm September and early October. Happy Halloween!
DeleteBeautiful bouquet, Beth!
ReplyDeleteFor a moment, I thought those zinnias were blanketflowers! :P
Thanks, Aaron! Yes, some Zinnias--and those 'Zowies' in particular--do resemble Blanketflowers.
DeleteThe arrangement is very sweet, just like you. Happy Blogaversary too.
ReplyDeleteAwwww, you make me blush. Back at ya! Thanks!
DeleteHappy Halloween and happy blogaversary! Here's to many happy returns of the day. Your arrangement is gorgeous. Thanks for the treat.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Peter! It was a sweet Halloween--lots of cute trick-or-treaters, and they were all very polite and well-behaved. It was neat to see so many families out enjoying the holiday together. Happy Halloween!
DeleteThat is by far the best seasonal bouquet I've found yet
ReplyDeleteOh my, thanks Jane! It was fun to put together. Zinnias are wonderful cut flowers. :)
DeleteLove this Beth. Perfect for the season and good inspiration for Cathy's challenge for two weeks time!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Yes, I was thinking about that--it will be fun to see what people come up with for that special "vase" challenge. :)
DeleteSuch fun! Happy anniversary...seven years is an accomplishment to be sure:^)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Marian! Those seven years have been fun--learning from and communicating with fellow bloggers and gardeners, like you!
DeleteZinnia 'Zowie' is fabulous! I saw the plants in my local garden center for the first time about a week ago and was tempted - now, I REALLY wish I'd brought a plant home.
ReplyDeleteHappy blog anniversary!
Yes, 'Zowie' is special! Rose at Prairie Rose's Garden introduced me to it. I'm so glad, because the butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds love it. And the people love it, too. Now you can look forward to adding it to your garden next year! :)
DeleteSeven years! Wow, well done Beth. I love your Halloween arrangement, the zinnia is lovely.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Chloris! The seven years passed quickly! The arrangement was fun to assemble--pumpkins are great receptacles. :)
DeleteI love the contrast between the form and color river oats, the hydrangea leaves, and the zinnias. The pumpkin is the perfect receptacle!
ReplyDeleteYes, it all worked out really well. I only added the Sea Oats a few years ago, but they're excellent draping elements in any arrangement. :)
DeleteHappy blogoversary!! Seven years - that's awesome! I love your arrangement, especially the use of hydrangea leaves. Very festive for autumn!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Indie! It's been fun following your blog for many years, too! The Hydrangea leaves are so handy for grand arrangements. I usually don't trim the Hydrangea's much, until I need some branches (or blooms) for an arrangement.
DeleteCongratulations! So happy to have found you in blog land. I appreciate your posts and friendship.
ReplyDeleteCarla
Thanks, Carla! I'm glad we've discovered each other, too. Maybe one of these days we can meet in person. :)
DeleteHurray! Congratulations on 7 wonderful years! I often think of all the wonderful people I would never have met/connected with and the experiences I would have missed had it not been for blogging.
ReplyDeleteThat's a beautiful fall display - much more to my taste than ghouls and skeletons :)
Hey Margaret: Thanks! I so agree: So many new like-minded friends made during the past seven years. I feel so blessed. It's been so fun getting to know you at the Fling and the GWA conference. :)

DeleteA happy blogoversary and Halloween to you!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Heather! I hope you had a Happy Halloween, too! Did you have a lot of trick-or-treaters? We had quite a crowd, which was surprising because it was a Tuesday night and so chilly!
DeleteGreat arrangement and happy blog birthday! Looking forward to many posts in the future.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jason! It's been fun getting to know you and Judy--through our blogs, conferences, and Midwest meet-ups. Cheers!
DeleteHappy Blogaversary...
ReplyDeleteThanks, Gail! Cheers!
DeleteCongratulations on seven years, with such a gorgeous vase to honour your anniversary too!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Cathy! The arrangement was fun. I had so many Zinnias to clip before the frost--it's so sad to know they're done for the season.
DeleteCongratulations Beth - have always enjoyed visiting your blog and seeing how your garden grows. This flower arrangement is so creative - love the way the oats hang out. Thank you for all the times you've supported my blog too - long may you continue to brighten up the blogosphere
